Istanbul Intercity Transport
In this article, we want to give a comprehensive description of Istanbul’s intercity transportation, which provides and transports thousands and even millions of passengers daily in the tourist city.
Trams The
trams first started operating in Istanbul on September 3, 1931, and served the people until 1912. This tram was not electric and was driven by a horse. After that, the electric tram or electric train was the main means of public transportation for the people of Istanbul until 1966.
Then, in 1990, the traditional tram was launched on a trial basis in the European part of Istanbul, but due to its declining popularity, the modern tram system was opened in 1992 in the European part.
Today, the Asian part of Istanbul uses a traditional tram system, while the European part uses both traditional and modern trams. The modern tram consists of two lines, T-One (T1) with a length of 18.5 km and 31 stations and T-Four (T4) with a length of 15.3 km and 22 stations.
The T-line stops every 2 minutes during rush hour and every 15 minutes during normal hours and the T-Four line stops every 5 minutes during rush hour at stations. The tram is open from 6 am to midnight.
The traditional tram consists of two T2 lines in the European part with a length of 1.6 km and 5 stations and a T-line (T3) in the Asian part with a length of 2.6 km and 10 stations.
The T-line stops every 10 to 20 minutes and the T-line stops every 10 minutes during rush hour at stations. Also, the departure time of T-T line is from 7 am to 8 pm and the departure time of T-Tiri is from 7 am to 9 pm.

Istanbul has two underground railway lines, the older of which is the tunnel line. The line opened on January 4, 2006 and is the second largest urban subway train in the world and the first urban subway in Europe after the London Underground, which opened in 1995.
Istanbul’s second cable train is Katabaş Taksim, which started on July 29, 2006. The line, which is about 600 meters long, connects the sea and tram bus station in Katabash to the Taksim Square metro station.
• Istanbul Metro:
Construction of the Istanbul Underground began in 1992. The first line of this system, called M2 (M2), was opened on September 16, 2000 between Taksim and Levent.
This line is 8.5 km long and has 6 stations, all of which are similar but have different colors. In 2009, following an expansion to the north, the Levent line to Ataturk Oto Sana. Station in Maslek was opened.
The line also extended south from Taksim to Sheikhaneh in Bey Olu, near the northern entrance to the tunnel.
The last development in the northern direction for a short route to Haji Osman was opened in 2011. The southern development of the MT line from Sheikhaneh to Yeni Kapi over the new Golden Horn Bridge also began in 2013, and then in 2014 it was connected to the M1A and M1B airport lines.
In the Asian part, the 26.5 km M4 line was opened on August 17, 2012 to Kartal. This line will have a total of 19 stations after the reopening of its second part. The connection of this line with Sabiha Gokcen Airport is also under investigation.
• Light Metro (Light Metro):
This transportation system of Istanbul called LRT consists of two lines. The first line of the series is the M1, which started on September 3, 1989, between Aksaray and Kartal Tepe, and then reached Ataturk Airport step by step on December 20, 2002.
This line has 18 stations and its length is 19.6 km. Another line, called T4, opened in 2007 between Irene Cape and Masjid Salam. The 15.3-kilometer line has 22 stations and has been operating between Topkapi and Happy Blair since 2009.
Bus
In Istanbul, there are two public and private bus systems, which is a convenient but crowded means of transportation to many places of interest and shopping. The two systems are not different in terms of cost, the only difference being that to pay for public buses you have to use tokens, credit cards and tickets, while for private buses you can also use money.
• Istanbul Metrobus:
Metrobus or BRT has a total of 55 stations, starting from Buyuk Bilik Dozo in the European part and reaching Kadikoy in the Asian part.
Turkish cable
car The Turkish cable car, called the Turkish cable car, was built in 2005 by an Italian company with a length of 384 meters. The main station of this cable car was built on the shore of Golden Horn in an area of 625 square meters.
Eup station also offers parking to visitors, and the return station is located in front of Pierre Lotfi Cafe in an area of 250 square meters.
This cable car passes through the plain behind Dolmabahçe Palace and near the Hilton Istanbul Hotel, and its working hours are from 8 am to 11 pm in summer and from 8 am to 10 pm in winter.
Istanbul Taxi: Istanbul
yellow taxis are almost always available but are very expensive. If you have a lot of equipment, you will have to use it, just make sure the taxi meter is on and working properly so you do not have to pay extra.
In general, the use of taxis is not recommended because in addition to its high cost, due to your foreign presence, there is a possibility that taxi drivers will abuse your lack of knowledge of Istanbul’s urban routes.
• Double-decker or minibus:
There are linear minibuses all over Istanbul, even around the city center, in remote areas, and their large number has made it accessible even to the back alleys of Istanbul, which have different stations with marked routes, mostly for all points. There is.
• Sea buses and passenger boats:
You can also use passenger boats and sea buses to travel between the Asian and European parts and the Prince Islands.
