Turkey’s plan to attract 300,000 foreign students by 2023
The number of foreign students in Turkey will increase to about 300 thousand by 2023.
Irfan Gunduz, the head of the Education Council of the Turkish Foreign Economic Relations Organization (DEİK), announced that Turkey plans to increase the number of international students to 300,000 by 2023.
In an interview with the Anatolian reporter, he stated that the spread of Corona has affected the whole world in all fields, and said: However, Turkey managed this pandemic in the best way. From now on, we will enter a period that is divided into two periods before and after the pandemic, and in the new period of digital work, digital education, digital development and digital export have become very important.
Stating that Turkey is at the center of the world with its strategic importance, geographical location, economic size, population and entrepreneurial spirit, Gondoz said: Turkey has lower education costs than European and Western countries. The aim of the Education Council of the Turkish International Economic Organization is the diplomacy of higher education as well as the coordination and cooperation between institutions and public organizations.
He continued: In this regard, we intend to turn Turkey into a center for attracting international students and to solve the problems that international students are facing.
The head of the Education Council of the Organization of Foreign Economic Relations of Turkey emphasized that the number of foreign students in the country increased from 48,000 to 224,000 in the last 5 years and announced that the country has become one of the host countries for the largest number of international students.
He also pointed to the provision of various scholarships to foreign students and stated: educational opportunities are provided in nearly 60 thousand different programs in 207 universities of the country. We plan to increase the number of international students to 300 thousand by 2023.
